Shepherd//Pastor ARE YOU DOING
Are you doing what God's word says for you to do? More than likely your first response is yes. But I ask you to look at some scriptures and see if what you are doing fits what the word says for you to do.
First, let us look at a portion of Hosea 4:6
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:
Question. Are God's people still being destroyed? Could a lack of knowledge still be the reason? If it is, why do they not have the knowledge?
Let's look at Jesus' instructions to Peter.
John 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me more than these? He said unto him, Yea, Lord; you know that I love you. He said unto him, Feed my lambs. John 21:16 He said to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me? He said unto him, Yea, Lord; you know that I love you. He said unto him, Feed my sheep. John 21:17 He said unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, do you love me? And he said unto him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.
Let us consider some things Jesus didn't tell Peter to do. 1. He didn't tell him to win the lost. 2. He didn't tell him to visit the sick. 3. He didn't tell him to build a huge church. There may be others but we will stop with these.
So what did Jesus tell Peter to do? Twice He said feed my sheep and once He said feed my lambs. Why do you suppose He said feed my sheep twice and lambs only once. Is it possible that it was because He meant those who had been believers for sometime were sheep and needed to be able to produce more sheep. After all, it is sheep who beget sheep. Shepherds are not responsible to beget sheep in their capacity as a shepherd. While a shepherd in the church is a sheep he is responsible to beget sheep as an individual not while he is fulfilling his position as a shepherd.
The majority of sermons I have heard over the years basically consisted of a number of do's and don't's. Other sermons consisted of high sounding things that were to inspire people to do things for God. Some even said that certain blessings were available to children of God.
What none of them contained were instructions on how to meet the conditions set forth in God's word for receiving those blessings.
If a person does not know that they are to do something, they can't do it. If they know they are supposed to do something but don't know how they aren't likely to be able to do it.
If a person doesn't know that they have a right to something, they can't ask for it in faith, therefore God can't answer their prayer.
The number one way that God's children are destroyed is by sickness, disease and accidents. The reason is that they don't know that it is their Heavenly father's will for them to be well and that just as Jesus took our sins and shed His blood for our soul on the cross, He also did two things at the cross for us to have healthy bodies.
Isa. 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
1 Peter 24:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
It seems that most Christians know about the stripes but they don't know about the other thing Isaiah said about that Jesus went through for our bodies to be healthy.
Isa 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage(appearance) was so marred(disfigured) more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
This disfigurement happened during the darkness as Jesus hung on the cross. During this period of time his body experienced the worst sickness, disease and accident that would ever touch a human body.
Jesus shedding his blood and taking our sins for our souls was proof of God's will for us to be born back into His family, Just as surely, the two things that Jesus suffered as proclaimed in Isaiah 52 & 53 prove that it is God's will that we live in a healthy body.
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable((well pleasing)) unto God, which is your reasonable service.
1 Cor 6:19 What? know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own?
From time to time we have heard the phrase, "the spirit bears witness with our spirit that what we have heard is true". That happens to the hearers many times as we share the truth of God's word.
However, when God's Spirit bears witness with a person's spirit, it doesn't mean that the hearer can immediately go out and start doing what they have heard and get the desired results. The hearer must first get into God's word and build their faith for that particular thing before they can get the desired results.
Sadly, there are many people today who carry the name Christian who have never been born again. Why is that? It is because they have been told to say a prayer that they believe that Jesus is the Son of God when all they have done is give mental assent that He is the Son of God. How can this be? Simple. They weren't told the actual meaning of the word believe in the following verse.
Rom 10:9 That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.
They aren't told that the belief must be so strong that they stake their very soul on that belief.
How many of you have told your people that craving is required in God's word in order to get what is desired? There are two places that I recall off hand where it is required.
Before I get to those scriptures, let me mention something related to one of them. The number one problem in Christianity is that people try to interpret God's word. We are not told to do that. We are told to interpret what is said in tongues. But when we are trying to interpret God's word, all we have to go on is that gray matter between our ears which isn't to reliable. We are to be taught by the Holy Spirit as can be seen by the following scripture.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show(tell) you things to come.
Unfortunately, being taught by the Holy Spirit doesn't come automatically and the KJV doesn't give a clue how to get the teaching by the Holy Spirit. Some people meet the terms without knowing it but most don't.
Here is what it says in KJV>
1 Pet 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby:
This is what it should have said based on the meaning of the Greek words translated desire and sincere.
1 Pet. 2:2 As newborn babes, intensely crave the un-deceitful, unadulterated milk of the word that you may grow thereby.
The phrase "intensely crave" is like a dope addict craves dope or an alcoholic craves alcohol. From talking to people who have been on dope or alcohol I have learned that they have one characteristic in common. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, says or does, they are going to get what they are craving. So when a child of God craves the truth of God's word that much, the Holy Spirit will teach them the truth and it will revolutionize their life. They will learn the truth that Jesus told the Jews would make then free in John 8:32.
As time goes by I will be adding to this page.
